It was incredibly fun and engaging to learn the game design process and create digital games. The skills that I developed here were more than I expected, and that is one reason why games can be powerful learning tools. They can teach more than coding or multimedia skills; in fact, 21st century skills like empathy, problem-solving, communication, collaboration and even perseverance can be cultivated through creating digital games.
Tools for digital game creation are becoming more abundant and more accessible. One example is Twine. My group and I used Twine to create a story-based game to show how digital games can be used for education. Click on the link below to play.
