Digital Games and Learning

Learning can come in all forms and occur in many different spaces. Digital games are unique as educational tools because they can act as safe practice spaces to learning something new. Often, skills or perspectives gained in the digital game can transfer into the ‘real’ world.

Digital gaming culture has evolved over the last couple of decades in that the social element of playing games is more easily accessible through social media, chat platforms and live streaming. Although the online gaming community is constantly growing, there are power dynamics at work that are important to understand. Working with Kevin Monkman, we created an interactive game board resembling Monopoly to show some of ways gatekeeping occurs, remains and has been challenged.

Please explore by clicking on the game pieces.  We suggest you start in the middle and then move to History Lane, working clockwise until you end at Jonathan Street.  Enjoy!
