Many people are familiar with Google Maps, but they are much less familiar with the First People’s Principles of Learning. The FPPL approach to learning is holistic and recognizes the interconnectedness of people and place in one’s learning journey. Storytelling is an important technique used to share, receive and internalize knowledge. My group and I innovated a new method of digital storytelling with a deep mapping tool. Stories can be told, pinned on the map, and linked to other stories. This allows the stories to be visualized geographically, which then allows users to more effectively share their sense of place and to more easily see how they might connect with others.
